Kurow Harness Racing Club 8 August 2010 - R 7
849(2)
RACEDAY JUDICIAL COMMITTEE DECISION
Informant: Mr N Escott, chief stipendiary steward
Defendant: G & N Hope, licensed trainers
Information No: 69279
Meeting: Kurow Harness Racing Club
Date: 08 August 2010
Venue: Oamaru Raceway
Race: 7
Rule No: 849(2)
Judicial Committee: Geoff Hall, Chairman – J Eagles, Committee Member
Plea: Admitted
CHARGES: Mr Escott alleged that G & N Hope (HOLME GROWN) had failed to ensure the correct number was attached to the horse. HOLME GROWN had warmed up with number 5 on when the correct number was 6.
Ms N Hope, who was in charge of the horse, admitted the breach on behalf of the partnership and indicated she did not wish to be present.
SUBMISSION: Mr Escott stated the horse was warming up on the track with the incorrect number. He emphasised the confusion that could have arisen had two horses with number 5 started in the race. He submitted a fine of $200 was appropriate.
DECISION: The Hopes have a clear record under this rule and have admitted the breach. However, having regard to the serious consequences that could have eventuated, we believe a fine of $200 is necessary to ensure that their obligations under the Rules of Harness Racing are brought home to the Hopes.
